Good news if your workplace does not yet provide AAF authentication

AAF Virtual Home (VH) has been released
The AAF Virtual Home (VH) – the new solution replacing the Virtual Home Organisation (VHO) – has been released in our production environment. The AAF Virtual Home (VH) is an identity management system for individuals who need to access services via the AAF but who do not have an account with an AAF identity provider (IdP).

As a researcher you may be collaborating with individuals who are not in your identity management system and who need to access AAF-connected services in your organisation. You can in effect sponsor these individuals and add them to the VH. This enables them to access AAF-connected services without having an account in your identity management system.

Graphical redesign of Research Data Australia

  • Change: A more modern and user-friendly Research Data Australia website will be implemented.
  • Who is affected: Research Data Australia Users
  • Impact: The basic functionality of Research Data Australia will stay the same however, users will be provided with a much improved graphical interface and enhanced navigation experience.
  • Documentation affected/needed: Content Providers Guide, Guides
  • Requirements: The Content Providers Guide and the Guides pages on the ANDS website will be updated to reflect the new Research Data Australia screens. Day 1 help document will be required to aid Research Data Australia users in using the portal

Complete Rewrite of ANDS Registry

  • Change: Largely the same feature set as the existing registry, with significant performance, graphical and usability enhancements
  • Who is affected: All registry users (ANDS Client Liaison Officers, ANDS Quality Assessors, Publish My Data Users (Researchers) and Data Source Administrators)
  • Impact: Due to all pages within the registry being changed, the initial impact of this change will be broad. Of particular note are those partners who are currently using the Add Record and Manage My Records pages to manage hand crafted records as part of their project obligations, and the ANDS Quality Assessors and Client Liaison Officers reviewing these records.  Although the core functionality of the registry is much the same, there will be an initial learning curve for existing users
Help material, webinars and special training exercises will be put in place to reduce the impact of this change
  • Documentation affected/needed: Content Providers Guide, Guides, Technical Resources page on the web, Training materials.
  • Requirements: The Content Providers Guide and the Guides pages on the ANDS website will be updated to reflect the new ANDS Registry screens.  Help documentation will be required to help data source administrators, assessors and client liaison in using the new screens.  Special assistance or training might be necessary to assist existing users in using the new Registry
Release announcements will be sent to ANDS staff, partners and general users
A webinar will be scheduled to educate contributors on the new ANDS Registry

RIF-CSAddition of 'orcid' identifier to party records

  • Change: .Addition of an Open Researcher and Contributor ID (ORCID) identifier to the RIF-CS Identifier vocab and associated display of resolvable ORCID identifier links in Research Data Australia
  • Who is affected: ANDS Client Liaison Officers, ANDS Assessors, and Data Source Administrators
  • Impact: Providers will now be able to provide a richer party record by adding the researcher's ORCID identifier, which will be resolvable when viewed in Research Data Australia
  • Documentation affected/needed: Content Providers Guide, Guides, RIF-CS page on the web, RIF-CS vocabulary
  • Requirements: The RIF-CS vocabulary will be updated to add 'orcid' as an identifier type, which will also be available in the drop-down field for users who manually add records in the ANDS Registry.  The Content Providers Guide and Guides pages on the ANDS website will also be updated to add the new identifier type and to provide guidance on usage
Release announcements will be sent to ANDS staff, partners and general users
DOI Service
Enhancement to the DOI Query Tool which allows users to update URIs assigned to their DOIs.
  • Change: The DOI Query Tool will be enhanced to allow Cite My Data users to update the URLs associated with their DOIs through a user interface.
  • Who is affected: Cite My Data users
  • Impact: Low impact. Cite My Data users will now be able to edit or update the URLs associated with their DOIs or the DOI metadata via the DOI Query tool in the ANDS Registry. This change will enable users to easily manage and keep their DOI URLs current.
  • Documentation affected/needed: Cite My Data Technical Document, Cite My Data page on the ANDS website
Release announcements will be sent to ANDS staff, partners and general users
A separate email will be sent to all Registered Cite My Data users to advise them of the change
